Chapter 4: Information Resources on the Web

I was aware that I could filter searches using specific parameters, such as the date, but I do not think I have ever used this capability before. However, it is not always the best way to find the most up to date information because the modification date can be updated even if the content has not changed, which would not be particularly useful to me. One thing I was surprised to learn is that the term “wiki” does not just refer to Wikipedia. It refers it any website here multiple people can contribute or edit. I found the section about finding employment especially useful because, while I was already familiar with Indeed, it also listed four other websites I can use. This is helpful because eventually I will need to look for a job, and having multiple reliable websites to search on will hopefully help me find a match more quickly and easily.

I personally found the section on medical information important because I tend to Google my symptoms and research specific ailments for peace of mind. I have a feeling that I will be using WebMD’s symptoms checker in the future. The website is easier and specific to what I would be looking for.

As for the rest of the section, I am already comfortable with how copyright works, as I mentioned in my past summary. I have also taken two English courses and a Psychology course where we had to write papers, so I am familiar with citing sources correctly in both MLA and APA formats. From these courses, I have learned the importance of properly citing sources. Branching off this, I have used public and online libraries to find articles, e-books, journals, etc., for my papers. It is a lot more convenient compared to going to a physical library.

Lastly, I did not know there were so many different formats for audio files. I only knew about MP3, so I really enjoyed learning about the various formats and what each one is used for. I never thought that I would be interested in learning about them, so I was surprised. However, the book did not cover the different formats for video files, so I plan to do some outside research on them.
